Overview

Leaders Club is a club for 13- 18 year olds that focuses on physical fitness, volunteerism, and building leadership qualities. The club has open enrollment from September to November, meets once a week, conducts fundraisers, helps with youth sports and other YMCA programs, and attends Blue Ridge Leaders School in June each year. Leaders club gives teens an opportunity to give back to their community and grow close friendships with other teens and members of the YMCA.


Teen Camp is a summer day camp program for rising 6th- 9th graders. Teen Camp is the next step for your child once they hit middle school and need a place to come for the summer. We offer recreation time, swimming, devotions, group games, arts and crafts, team building exercises, and field trips. Registration begins in May and runs through the end of summer. More information canbe found at the membership office during the summer months.

 

Field Trip Fridays- If you do not plan to have your teen in teen camp, but want them to go on the field trips with us they can! You simply pay $28.00 for us to care for your teen all day plus the cost of the field trip. If the field trip for the week is free for campers, the fieldtrip cost for your teen will be $7.00. you will have to register your teen 7 days in advance. We take our field trips on Fridays, so you will have to register them the Friday a week before they plan to come on the next Friday.

 

Teen Time is a program available for 6th- 8th graders during Christmas break and Spring break.It is childcare for thepre-teens to help them have fun and help parents feel more secure than leaving their preteen home alone. We offer recreation time, swimming, devotions, group games, arts and crafts, team building exercises, and lots of fun. Registration begins in November for Christmas break and in February forSpring break.


Teen Sports- The sports department has more information during the year on different sports available for teens. Sports are a great way to get your teen involved with a social group as well as helping them learn teamwork. Check with the membership staff for more information.


Youth and Government is a “Hands-on” experience involving the state government for high school students. It is an educational program that increases awareness of the governmental process and develops skills in the areas of personal development, self-esteem, and leadership. Teens will learn and work on news reporting, writing, debating, and lobbying for or against bills. The teens in the program take a weekend long trip to Raleigh, where the students present and debate Bills in the State Legislative Building. You can get more information at your high school or with Misty Cummings at the Stokes Family YMCA.


Group exercise- Teens can participate in the group aerobics classes such as Zumba, Boot Camp, Cardio, etc. They can also BA involved in water fitness classes, the Fitlinxx program where they will learn to work out on the cardio machines and weight lifting machines, and cycling classes. You can speak with a fitness staff for more information and more details on age limits and training sessions.

 

Teen Fitlinxx- Teen Fitlinxx is available for any teen 12 years of age or older. You need to ba a member of the YMCA to set up an appointment with our membership staff to BA set up and trained on our Fitlinxx equipment. The equipment allows teens to workout every part of their body in both cardio and strength training. Make an appointment today!!


Swim Lessons- If your teen is unsure about swimming we have adult swim lessons available as well. They will BA instructed on the basics of swimming and in the end feel more confident about being in the water. See Aquatics tab for more information.
